Friends, (especially classical ones), here’s a little (*long*) story about what I’ve been up to the past years, celebrating my first “new” music in a long time:
“Here Comes The Rain Again” by Kristóf Hajós and Bad Nomad (me) is out now, everywhere you listen to music.
Big thanks for @kristof.hajos for his collaborative spirit, support, and this opportunity. Huge thanks also to the wonderful @yourownkindofmusic for this opportunity and support; this track is released through his label @yourownkindoflabel. I also want to thank @floydraynor for the brilliant surgical mastering.

I had the extraordinary honor of interviewing @clovenaha last fall for the Art Badly podcast. It was a blast catching up with her and she’s been unbelievably gracious and patient with me as I delayed the episode. You can listen to our interview where we talk about all things music, punk, and personal on Episode 3 of “Art Badly” anywhere you get podcasts.
ALSO, do yourself a favor and pick up @cheap_city_forever’s newest album! AVAILABLE TODAY!!!! Available on Bandcamp
I'm equal parts relieved, excited, and nervous to (finally) share Alien with you. I'm sending this message to you folks first because you mean so much to me. Changing the focus in my career / life from classical music to songwriting has been incredibly difficult, stressful, and rewarding.
I've had to change old thought patterns & embrace new ones, step out of my comfort zone (almost constantly), and ask for (a lot) of help. In the process, I've learned more and accepted more about myself than ever before, and it feels good for the pieces to start fitting together.
This was the inspiration for Alien, that I've felt weird for as long as I can remember; mystified that everyone else seemed to 'get it' when it came to life. For a long time I thought it was because I was 'broken' somehow. In times like that I often think of a quote I saw years ago that I'll paraphrase and butcher below:
You can't judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree.
Yeah, Alien is sad, but it's more than that, I think I also created it to find other people like me: people who've felt like they didn't really belong anywhere, who found it hard to make friends, who, as the song says, are "...looking for [their] home."
I'm so, so grateful for your support. Thank you.

Album Art Reveal! (Keep reading for story time!)
If you’ve been following me at all you’ll know that “AO GRYVE” is gone. Here’s why:
Sometime late last year I was talking to a stranger in a restaurant and he asked about my music. I told him “AO GRYVE” and felt so stupid trying to explain it. I realized I’ve been trying to explain myself for a long time. I realized I couldn’t expect others to accept me if I couldn’t accept myself.
Looking back, AO GRYVE was necessary. It was convoluted and veiled, just like how I felt at the time. Stepping away from classical music has been extremely difficult to do: to rediscover my relationship with music, to expand my personal identity, and to “start over” career-wise (and all the feelings that come with those changes!). But, I feel like I’m finally creating art that connects the head and the heart, which I realized was important for my creative fulfillment.
I changed my artist name to “Saint Quaint” to reflect these changes: “quaint” mixing old-world charm & nostalgia with contemporary sounds (it also has another lesser-known definition of being “unusually peculiar and unique in a way to excite more interest”; “saint” as a nod to my French-Canadian heritage (look at the town names in northern Maine), and also a commentary (in the “cultural saint” sense) on the nature that what artists create is often larger than themselves, and that artists often feel compelled to create things larger than themselves that will (hopefully) continue their existence after they’re gone.
If you haven’t yet pre-saved I’ve got a link in my bio. Or if you think Spotify is a giant pile of garbage, I’ve included a reminder in this post that (I think?) you can save(?).
I’ve got merch(!), more art, and performances coming, and I’m so, so excited (and nervous) to share all of this with you.
You’re almost to the weekend, you got this.
SNEAK ATTACK! new music on Spotify 😮
You: What are you talking about?
Me: Yup, I'm super sneaky (read: away from social media but still makin' tunes)
Storytime: So a couple months ago I was frowning over my poor basil plant (RIP) wondering where it all went wrong. Followed all the directions perfectly. Nothin'. I've had other plants, but I've never been successful with basil. I started wondering if maybe I had a black thumb for basil, and at that exact moment, a completely different thought hit me: what if I have a black thumb for people? For relationships?
If you've ever wondered how some people effortlessly make friends, then you might know what I'm talking about. Maybe it's just me, but I find the whole process mystifying; I mean, it's a humble mystery to me that all of you amazing people follow me on here and I also get to see all the cool stuff you do, too. I'm so grateful for that and for all the things you yourself put out into the world.
Anyway, you can find Black Thumb on any streaming service you like as well as the Spotify and YouTube links in my bio 😬
New haircut who dis? 🥸 Everyone getting off a good start to their week so far? Looking forward to next weekend already? (I can see the light!)
Busy so far gearing up for my next release (announcement soon) and finishing up songwriting / playing tutorial videos for “I Can’t Decide”. Rest of the week looking busy planning a photoshoot with @haleycleggphotography, doing some back-end business stuff, teaching, and recording a super secret surprise 😧
What are you up to this week? Anything you’re looking forward to? Anything you’re dreading?
🧐 Guess what? SO EXCITED to share the album work for “Fox & Crow” coming out next month! (Artwork by yours truly) This track features the killer @hannah_jane_music from @feels.like.honey and @blankslatemi on vocals AND bass and I’m so grateful for her work on this track.
If you haven’t seen it, I’m doing a 4-Part series into the production for Verse 2 (first 2 parts are in my profile). Other parts are dropping weekly and I’ve got a ton of things about this track that I’m excited to share with you.
Folks, this one is different. With this track I feel like I’m *finally* beginning to bring all the sounds together that I’m looking for, and that’s such a great feeling.
A couple days ago somebody commented on my album artwork for “I Can’t Decide” and said it made them feel like they needed to spend more time with their inner child.
I kind of think they nailed it, and that’s how I feel constantly (haha). Career, relationships, the future, all that stuff can build up, get in the way, and take you away from who you are.
When you’re a kid the world is big and wide and solid. As an adult, sometimes you’re looking for answers, and sometimes you just want somebody to decide for you.
I’ve got this little rolling acoustic song about looking for answers and looking for somebody to take the wheel for a minute. It’s called “I Can’t Decide” and I’ve kept it to myself for the last four years. Have been Learning how to open up and share things, so I’m sharing it now to try and find some folks like me.
Coming out this Friday 2/5/21. Follow me on Spotify through link in Bio so you can hear it when it’s released, and while you’re waiting, you can check out some of the weird stuff I already got on there.
Have you ever felt lost? Reach out to me in the comments or DM and let’s connect 😁
